To locate a geostatinary satellite cost effective continous tracking was proposed and carried out in the frame of COGEOS experiment. The tracking campaigns demonstrated the aibility to locate a geostationary satellite with a precision of a few meters. This accuracy is appropriate for the determination of particular components of the Earth gravity field and to improve the relative satellite position determination that is neccesary to place more satellites in the same longitude control box. This paper summerises the results of the tracking campaigns, and proposes new research objectives for geodynamical investigations.
