The nutation of a rigid Earth model based on a new tidal potential development.

Hartmann T., Soffel M.

A new nutation series for a rigid Earth model is derived from a high precision tidal potential development that was presented recently by Hartmann and Wenzel. All amplitudes larger than 0.45 microas were considered, leading to a total of 699 nutation terms. At this level of accuracy the following terms have to be taken into account besides the main terms of the Moon and the Sun: direct and indirect terms from the planets, effects due to the triaxiality, J3 and J4 of the Earth, the geodetic nutation and second order terms. The resulting nutation series for figure-, angular-momentum and rotation axes are in good agreement with those found by Souchay and Kinoshity (1995).
